Junction esp. tunnel junction device comprises an insulating substrate a strip of superconducting or conducting material and at least one side region of super- or semi-conducting material sepd. by the strip by a barrier across the substrate 1-5 nm thick if it is insulating. In electromagnetic radiation detectors of frequency mixers; in parametric amplifiers; in rapid commutation circuits; in memories and magnetometers of Josephson effect type and voltage standards. The device has a high transparency to electromagnetic fields.
