The cut-out mechanism for motor vehicles operates for a set time after the accelerator pedal ceases to be used and with the vehicle stationary. The mechanism is intended to prevent a vehicle engine from being left idling for any length of time, saving fuel and reducing pollution. Pedal movement is detected by a microswitch housed in a flexible walled compartment and operated by a cable from beneath the pedal. Road wheel movement is detected by a small dynamo driven, for example, from the gearbox. The mechanism works by having the pedal switch and a second switch driven from the road wheel sensor connected mutually in parallel, in series with the ignition coil circuit. The circuit may include a delay unit controlling the action of the two switches.
|
