PURPOSE:To obtain a graphite composite material having superior heat and wear resistances, etc. by heating the outside of a base material such as a wire or a rod and forming a graphite layer precipitated from liq. hydrocarbon by decomposition all over the material surface in predetermined size and form while controlling to isolate the material from the outer phase. CONSTITUTION:Base material 7 made of metal such as tungsten or Nichrome or graphite and having the form of a wire, a rod or the like is heated in a reactor using material 7 as an electric resistor, and liq. hydrocarbon kept at a predetermined temp. is supplied to the whole outside of material 7 while controlling the flow rate to form pyrographite 8 in predetermined size and form by thermally decomposing the hydrocarbon. A plurality of base materials 7 may be arranged in contact with each other or at intervals and covered with pyrographite as one body. At least two materials 7 each covered with pyrographite 8 may be arranged at intervals to form a graphite composite material as a whole. The base material of the resulting composite material is isolated from the outer phase, and the composite material has high mechanical strength, grindability, etc. |
