Two stage power stepped transmission for I.C. engine - varies ratio with engine speed with minimum high values 3 to 3.5 and maximum low values 6 to 8

The transmission has power stepping, and is used with I.C. vehicle engines. Three epicycloidal gear trains (10,20,30) and a twin element (E1,E2) converter extend between the input (1) and output (2) shafts. A coupling selectively connects either element (E1,E2) with any two gear trains. The coupling also divides the ratio range into two contiguous zones where different transmission modes apply, and the ratio varies with engine operating speeds. Ratios vary between min. high values of 3 to 3.5 and max. low values of 6 to 8. The second mode ratios vary between min. high regime and max. low regine values, with high regime values limited by permissable converter speeds and torques.
