Ca chloride solns. (I) from flue qas desulphurisation plants operating with lime or Ca carbonate are used as dust binding agents. (I) are treated with mono- or poly-basic carboxylic acids (IIA) or their salts (IIB) as corrosion inhibitors. Pref. (II) is added in the liq. phase, pref. before homogenisation by evapn. (I) or a paste or flakes formed from these are used in mining. The addn. of (II) inhibits corrosion of steel structures in the mine and the locomotives, wagons etc. used for transport.
