<p>PURPOSE:To enable a mordant layer to be coated with an aqueous solvent by emulsion-polymerizing a specified monomer as a shell component using dispersed particles of polymer latex, as nuclei, prepared by emulsion-polymerizing a water insoluble monomer and by using the resulting cationic polymer latex to form the mordant layer. CONSTITUTION:A water insoluble monomer other than water insoluble monomers represented by the formula (where each of R1 and R2 is H or 1-6 C alkyl, each of R3, R4 and R5 is 1-20 C alkyl or 7-10 C aralkyl, halogen or nitro as a substituent may be introduced into the aralkyl, and R3, R4 and R5 may link together to form a ring) is emulsion-polymerized to prepare dispersed particles of polymer latex. Using the particles as nuclei a monomer represented by the formula is emulsion-polymerized as a shell component, and then a mordant layer contg. the resulting cationic polymer latex is formed on a support of paper, polyethylene or the like to obtain the titled photographic element.</p> |
