New born baby resuscitation ventilator - has second stage with adjustable throttle in vent from water trap

The ventilator is used for resuscitation of new-born babies. It has a water trap acting as inhalation valve and a T-piece branch from the trap standpipe, by which the trap is connected by hoses to the respiratory gas supply and to a patient's adapter. The latter has an exhalation port to atmosphere which can be shut off. The quantity of gas from the supply is adjustable, and the maximum immersion depth of the standpipe determines the maximum inhalation pressure. The period for which the exhalation port is shut determines respiratory frequency and timing. A second respiration stage, comprising the water trap (2) and a throttle (6) in the vent from the latter, can be cut in. Both throttle cross-section and quantity of respiratory gas supplied determine the inhalation pressure.
