Vehicle clutch with freewheel facility - has separate servo clutch for small flywheel to restart engine

The transmission with a freewheel facility has a separate clutch (14) to operate on a small flywheel (7) which provides sufficient energy to restart the engine after the vehicle has coasted for a set distance. This allows the driver to switch off the engine on downhill stretches and restart it without using the starter motor. The additional clutch and flywheel are not in the normal drive chain and can be small. The clutch is servo operated hydraulically or electrically and is mounted on the transmission with integral bearings.
