<p>A precision honing device including a substantially tubular honing member having an outer work engaging surface, an axially tapered inner surface, a full length slit through the device along one side thereof, and a layer of a relatively hard wear resistance abrasive substance applied to the outer work engaging surface, the work engaging outer surface of the device having an axial taper formed by a first portion extending to adjacent one end that has a first rate of taper, a second portion extending to adjacent the first portion having a rate of taper that is less than the rate of taper of the first portion, and a third tapered portion extending from the second portion on the opposite side thereof from the first portion, the third portion being axially tapered at a reverse taper relative to the tapers of the first and second portions, the taper of the first portion causing a greater rate of stock removal during honing than the taper of the second portion.</p> |
