<p>Disinfectant compsn. (A) contains >=1 alpha,beta-unsatd. aldehyde of R1R2C=CR3-CHO (I) (where R1,2,3 are H, 1-5C alkyl and/or alkenyl and total no. of C is 6-12, pref. 8-10). Pref. the disinfectant compsns. contain an aldol condens. prod. of aldehydes of formula R3-CH2-CHO with carbonyl cpds. R1R2CO (where R1 and R2 are alkyl). Compsn. (A) can be used in cosmetics, for cleaning and care of skin; for disinfecting food-halls, dairies, large kitchens; for treating skin diseases caused by microorganisms; for sanitising operating-theatres and air-conditioning and for instrument disinfection; and also in veterinary medicine for sanitising incubators, fattening establishments, in stalls and pultry-houses. (I) have a pleasant or at least not unpleasant smell, good physiological compatibility and awide-anti-microbial activity also at lower concns. e.g. 0.1%, and are active against bacteria, fungi, yeasts, algae, spores, myco-bacteria and viruses, E.g. testing of fungicidal activity showed that limiting concn. in destroying Candida albicans in =30 min. was 0.005% with 2-isopropyl-5-Me-hex-2-enal compared with 0.5% for HCHO. (I) are stable also in alkaline media, esp. stable to discolouration and to storage.</p> |
