The air flow meter (50) comprises an air velocity measuring resister (501) and a temperature compensating resistor (503) and is installed in a bypass passage (30) provided at an intake passage (12) running through an air horn (10). The air velocity measuring resistor (501) and the temperature compensating resistor (503) are supported by lead wires (302, 304) whose portions exposed in the bypass passage (30) are the same in length. A cover (308) forming the bypass passage (30) is made of heat insulating synthetic resin material to prevent heats from being transmitted to the resistors (501, 503).
