<p>NEW MATERIAL:A nitrogen-containing polycyclic compound of formula I (R1 and R2 are lower alkyl groups; W is O or NH), and its salt. EXAMPLE:cis 16-Methoxycarbonyl-17-iminoeburnan. USE:Useful as remedies for arteriosclerosis and cerebral and coronary blood vessel throubles dur to thrombus, having the vasodilator, antispasmodic, and cerebral metabolism enhancing actions, and useful as an intermediate for the eburnamenin- type alkaloid ester having improved cerebral vasodilator actions. PROCESS:An indoloquinolizine derivative of formula II is reacted with a compound of the formula X-CH2CO2R1 (X is halogen) in a solvent, e.g. dimethylformamide, at 10-70 deg.C, and if necessary hydrolyzed with water or a hydrous alcoholic solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst, e.g. a mineral acid, at 0 deg.C-room temperature to form the compound of formula I.</p> |
