The sill assembly has oblong top and bottom plates and a vertical rib rigidly fixed between them, the centre lines of plates and rib being parallel. Within the area enclosed by plates and rib stiffening devices (22) are mounted, these having sections extending at right angles to the centre lines referred to. The devices can extend vertically, having one or more sections perpendicular to the rib surface. An extra upright component can be provided, running along the sill assembly and mounted between the top and bottom plates.
