The reduction gearbox has quiet operation, small space requirements and good efficiency. The driven shaft has two worm gears (2a, 2b) cut in opposing directions. The intermediate pinions comprise teeth (15) meshing with the worm (2a, 2b) and teeth (16) meshing with the output gear (5) which is fixed to the output shaft (9). The moulded plastic intermediate pinions are free to move longitudinally on their spindles (11), and they have specially moulded surfaces to limit this travel, butting against the curved end of the spindle (11) in one direction and the gearbox casing in the other. Thus, depending on the sense of rotation of the driven shaft, one pinion is enmeshed and the other is pushed clear of the worm.
|
