<p>1275696 Sheet forming GULLFIBER AB 6 Nov 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 52921/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] In manufacturing a package containing a plurality of easily-removable ear plugs, a band 2, having a plurality of sleeves 3, is formed in a device 1 from two strips 16, for instance of Kraft paper coated with polyethylene, and a plunger 5, moving up and down as the band passes below it, presses into each sleeve 3 a piece of mineral fibre felt 4, cut by a knife 9 from a strip 4, advancing along a support 6 towards a plate 7 having a mould 10 which shapes each piece of mineral fibre felt 4 before it is pressed into a corresponding sleeve 3. The device 1 comprises a housing 12 having heater elements 13 fitted in its walls and accommodating two toothed wheels 14 which co-operate with a synchronous, horizontally reciprocatable, mandrel 15 which is also raised and lowered respectively into, and out of, its operative position between the wheels 14 as the sleeves are formed and sealed. A wax binder 8 may be applied by a nozzle 20 to each plug which may be trimmed before the binder is applied. Additional forming meansmay be provided by means of a ring, or tape, placed around the projecting part of each coupling. Each plug may be provided with an interlayer of gauze applied between the mineral fibre felt 4 and the mould 10.</p> |
