The intercell connections in a storage battery divided into cells by tight partitions comprise a plate bridge having lugs 22A, 24A between which is a conducting element 40A, of lead or lead alloy, the lateral faces of which are welded to the vertical faces 26A, 28A of the lugs. The conducting member 40A is embedded in an insulating part 32A the bottom end of which sealingly engages partition 14A by means of a median groove and the top end of which is sealingly received in a cavity in the cover. Preferably, the lateral faces of conducting member 40A are convex before welding and are encircled by a projecting rib 42 integrally moulded with insulating part 32A. The rib is substantially circular and concentric with respect to the cylindrical conducting member 40A and engages without discontinuity the flat face of the adjacent lug. The rib preferably has a sharp edge with an apex of 60 degrees to improve close contact between the rib and lug and to allow the rib to be slightly crushed during welding. |
