In a method of refrigerating goods (e.g. bananas or other fruit) packed in containers (14, Fig. 3) during transport thereof in an enclosed space such as a ship's hold, the containers are stacked on carriers each comprising a floor 10 and two transverse end walls, 11, 12, each carrier being arranged to receive a plurality of the containers stacked around a cooling-air distribution channel (e.g. 15) extending through the end wall 11 of the carrier to the vicinity of the other end wall 12. The enclosed space is provided with an air cooling system and one branch 16 of a channel of said system is attached (e.g. via ports 17 or 18 which may incorporate air control means) to the said channels 15 of the carriers. The channels 15 have perforated walls through which the cooling air passes to flow over the containers. Where the containers comprise cardboard boxes, these may have ventilation openings therein so that the contained goods are not secluded from the surrounding atmosphere. <IMAGE> |
