<p>The engine has a stator (1) with an inner profile formed of four arcs, joined by four straight sections. A rotor (8) revolves on an axis through the centre of the stator and carries several pistons (5) on its periphery. Each piston is in the form of a rectangle with rounded corners and pivots on the rotor on an axis parallel to the rotor axis. Two of its edges (6) run on the inside of the stator. The resulting motion produces variable volume working chambers between the pistons and stator. It is equivalent to a trochoidal path, but is achieved with more easily machined components.</p> |
