The secateurs comprise a body (6) with a fixed cutter jaw (4). On this pivots (5) a second cutting jaw (3), held open by a spring (20). The other end of the cutter body forms a support for an actuator (7), a supply of liquified propane gas being connected (9) into it. The gas enters the actuator when the handle (11) is depressed and extends the actuator rod (14) into the cutter body. A suitable flexible strip (16) is attached to the moving jaw and the action of the extending rod on this strip closes the jaw.
