Indirect solar heat collector - has heat pipes embedded in moulded plastics heat absorbent foam matrix

The solar collector consists of an insulated enclosure (1) and an insulated base (6). The transparent cover (2) may be single or double glazed. A moulded plastics mattress (8) is fitted inside the enclosure and covers the entire base area. The mattress is moulded from a cellular plastics incorporating rows of truncated pyramids moulded onto the surface to form channels intersecting each other at right angles. The flat upper surfaces (3) of the pyramids have a matt black finish. Heat pipes are installed in the channels to receive the maximum amount of heat from the absorbant mattress (8). During heating the refrigerant in the heat pipe (4) evaporates and flows to the condensing section via the connection (9) where the heat is given up to the hot water or air to be heated.
