PURPOSE:To obtain an exhaust-gas purifying and silencing apparatus, excellent in its exhaust-gas purifying and silencing performance although its structure is rather small, by disposing a porous catalyst tank in the form of a hollow cone coaxially in a cylindrical member. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas of diesel engine is introduced via inlet pipe 1 into swirl chamber 14 in which swirl is given to the exhaust-gas flow, and then it is introduced into separation chamber 2 through twisted vanes 12 with swirl being accompanied. In this separation chamber 2, coal dust is urged outwards by the centrifugal force and formed into gas containing a high density of dust, and then flowing downward along separating plate 15, enters into dust pipe 3. Thereafter, coal dust flows into rear cylinder 11. On the other hand, main flow of exhaust gas enters into catalyst chamber 5 via guide pipe 16 similarly with swirl being accompanied. Then, exhaust gas is passed through conical catalyst tank 6 in the manner turning around the same and enters into hollow space 21. In passing through the catalyst chamber 5 and catalyst tank 6, CO, HC, aldehyde, etc. contained in exhaust gas are converted into innoxious carbon dioxide gas and water, and exhaust gas thus purified is discharged to the outside from exhaust pipe 8. |
