The hospital bed is mounted on a wheeled chassis and comprises an articulated base mounted on a wheeled carriage (8) which can be moved longitudinally along the chassis. Hydraulic jacks enable the sections supporting the back and lebs (4a,4b) to be pivoted relative to the central section (4c). The two ends of the base are mounted on vertical hydraulic jacks which adjust the overall height of the bed. The bed can be used when the patient is to be scanned or x-rayed. The hydraulic liner used to adjust it are completely enclosed within the chassis.
