<p>A parabolic reflector pivotable about vertical and horizontal axes comprises a vertical, secure mounting pillar with the vertical pivot carrying the reflector at the top of the pillar. The reflector is made firstly by forming a large parabolic support of a hardening paste and forming the parabolic surface by rotating about a vertical axis a vertical plate whose lower surface is shaped to sweep out the paraboloid. The support surface is then covered with plates dimensioned exactly as the reflecting plates to be used and then coated with several resin layers. A support structure is built on the concave resin surface, then removed, the resin directed along parallel planes and transported to the reflector location. The resin is then supported convex surface uppermost on its support structure, the reflecting plates located in position and covered with a binder resin which, once hardened, is removed with the plates to provide the reflector surface.</p> |
