Steam iron - has access to evapn. chamber in plate, blocked by conical insert

Evapn. chamber of a steam iron is sealed by an insert in the iron sole plate which projects into the chamber. Insert supports an annular seal on its peripheral rim, engaging with an opening in the plate. Shape of the insert gives rise to a drip feed of water to the heated zone of the plate. It is further possible to withdraw the insert easily to remove deposits of hard water 'fur'. Conical surface of the insert may be covered with a fur-resistant material.
