<p>Continuous process and a machine for extn. of a soluble prod. from fluid solids by contacting with a solvent are claimed. The solids are conveyed continuously through sprays of solvent which drains through the solids to progress countercurrent to the flow of solids. Enriched, drained solvent is recycled at least once through the solids. The solids conveyor stirs the solids as it moves them. The base of the conveyor is perforated to drain into a channel inclined towards the load end of the conveyor. The channel is divided into compartments and draining, progressively-enriched solvent is recycled through the conveyed solids from each compartment. Each compartment overflows to the next one lower down the inclined channel. The conveyor is pref. a screw conveyor. Each conveyor pref. has a solvent recycling pump to sprays above the conveyor. The amount of liq. recycled is pref. controlled by a throttling valve. High yield of prod. excellent contacting without blocking because solids are continually stirred. The enriched solvent is free from sludge. Recycled solvent drains rapidly through the agitated bed of solids.</p> |
