Thermo-formed plastic moulding with crackle effect - has coating of less elongation at break than core

A crackle effect, similar to the crackled surface of an ornamental silicate glass lamp fitting, is achieved with thermoplastic organic glass by coating a plastic core with a different plastic. The plastic used for the coating has pref. a lesser elongation at break and a greater surface hardness than the core. Suitable materials for the core include methacrylate, polycarbonate, polystyrene, and PVC. Arrangement overcomes the difficulty of producing single-layer organic glass with a crackled surface by thermoelastic deformation.
