Preserved planar and evenly thick organ- and body-sections are prepd. by impregnating with liq. organic cpds. which shrink on polymerisation, e.g. unsaturated polyester resins, acrylic resins, polyurethanes, epoxy resins and silicone rubber, opt. with the addn. of diluents, hardeners and accelerators. Polymerisation of the plastic in- and/or around the specimen section takes places in flat casting compartments. The compartment walls adjacent to the specimen section surfaces are capable of moving towards one another during polymerisation. The plastic-embedded specimen slice formed is unmoulded after completing polymerisation and opt. after-treated. The preserved specimen slice has a smooth surface, even thickness and is free from enclosed air bubbles. The thickness of the end-prod. corresponds to or is only slightly higher than that of the specimen section.
