The device has a support frame (20) to span, and to be moved over, the surface of a concrete slab (11) on wheels (26) running on rails (12) extending along side edges of the slab. A hopper (74) for depositing a layer of finishing material on the slab surface is supported ahead of at least one roller (50,51) carried by the frame. The finishing material is confined on the surface by side walls (110) depending from the frame and overlapping the side edges of the slab. Drive motors (56) are provided to rotate the roller and the roller can be adjusted vertically relative to the frame to adjust the thickness of finishing material being rolled onto the slab surface.
