<p>The ingot has four sides (I)-(IV) and is laid on one side (I) while an L-shaped burner desaams the top (II) and one side (III) of the ingot. During this deseaming operation, a heater is used to warm the remaining side (IV) to prevent distortion of the ingot. The ingot is next rotated through 180 deg. on its longitudinal axis, so it can be laid on side (II) while the L-shaped burner deseams sides (I) (IV); side (III) is heated during this operation to avoid distortion of the ingot. In one pref. plant, levers are used to rotate the ingot through 180 deg. In another pref. plant, the ingot rests on a wagon which is driven into a turnover station using electromagnets and a crane. Deseaming can be achieved at low cost without distortion of the ingot.</p> |
