L-Glutamic acid is produced by aerobic culture of a mutant of Brevibacterium or Corynebacterium sensitive to N-palmitoylglutamic acid and resistant to CH2FCO2H. Thus, B.lactofermentum AJ11060 was cultured with shaking at 31.5≦̸C on a medium contg. glucose 36, KH2PO4 1, and MgSO47H2O 0.4mg/ml plus trace amts. of FeSO4, MnSO4 and biotin. When optical d. at 562nm of the medium reached 0.30, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monopalmitate/ml was added to the broth. L-Glutamic acid was produced with a yield of 56% in terms of sugar.
