PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of an edge stain due to the penetration of a developer from a cut edge of photographic paper by allowing carboxyl-modified polyvinyl alcohol to be contained in base paper. CONSTITUTION:Base paper for photographic paper is coated with >= about 0.5g/ m<2> carboxyl-modified polyvinyl alcohol preferably having about 80-98% saponification degree, about 1-20mol% carboxyl units, about 1,000-30,000 polymerization degree and about 5-100cps viscosity in a 5% aqueous soln. |
