Preparation of cells on microscope slides - by filtering from body fluids with a plastic membrane filter, fixing, rendering the membrane filter transparent, and staining

New process is claimed for obtaining and evaluating cell prepns. from liq. media (esp. urine and body fluids) for testing for indications of tumours, in which the cells are applied to a transparent microscope slide, fixed, stained, and examined and evaluated. The liq. medium is filtered by means of a plastic porous membrane filter having a pore size such as to retain the cells under investigation. The cells are simultaneously or subsequently fixed on the membrane filter, and the membrane filter is converted into a transparent state before or after it is placed on the microscope slide. The cells are stained using one or more dye baths after the membrane filter has been converted into the transparent state. New appts. for carrying out the above process is a prepn. set comprising (a) a disposable syringe with an attachable filter unit with a porous plastic membrane filter; (b) a fixing agent for preserving organic cells; (c) a chemical liq. to convert the membrane filter into transparent state; (d) a chemical dye bath for staining the organic cells; and (e) a transparent slide to take the membrane filter.
