IC engine with reciprocating valves - has combustion chambers arranged to give working stroke at right angles to shaft

The engine has four combustion chambers (1) arranged in two opposed pairs at opposite ends of the shaft (6). Sliding contact arms (2) produce ignition simultaneously in two diagonally opposed chambers. After half a revolution of the shaft the other pair of diagonally opposed chambers is filled with fuel air mixture. The fuel pump is driven by cams (3) at the sides of the chambers. The inlet valves are controlled by cams (4) on the shaft. An annular exhaust outlet (5) round each end of the shaft supports cams which convert reciprocating into rotary motion. The working stroke takes place at 90 degrees to the shaft.
