<p>The fitting body is stamped out from a sheet metal piece with two edges turned over in such a way that the two edges (2) meet while on the middle part of the sheet metal piece. The two walls are kept at a distance forming a channel (5) with a rounded bottom edge (6). The upper part of the fitting where the two sheets meet has an opening (4) for bolting the fitting to the suitable point of the car bodywork. The lower double-walled part has a slot which accommodates the thickness of the webbing and in addition has enough room for accommodating a hollow crescent-shaped element (1) consisting of two sheet metal arch-shaped walls (7,8) with rounded edges (9). The underside of the crescent rests on a pin (3) fitted axially in the lower rounded part (6) of the fitting while the two ends of the crescent have stamped-out square openings (10) penetrated by supporting parts (5) of the fitting. A flattening of the crescent is an indication that the seat belt system has been submitted to excessive stress and has to be replaced.</p> |
