Refractory lining for metallurgical reactors - is protected against slag attack by curtain of inert gas

<p>A new system is described for reducing the wear of refractory linings in metallurgical reactors and ladles and for weakening the high aggressivity of the slags, which is aggregated by the high temp. Inert gases are introduced to rise in front of the refractory lining so that the contact area between slag and refractory lining is diminished and the temp. of the contents in the peripheral zone is kept low. This also keeps temp. fluctuations away from the refractory lining.</p>
