<p>The steering column is fitted with a torque monitor to determine the manual steering force in either direction. The two parts of the monitor rotate relative to each other and are linked by a special spring (16). This has the shape of a flat circlip whose ends (17, 18) are bent in different directions at right angles to the plane of the clip. One end is secured on one half of the monitor and the other on the other haff. The torque monitor can be modified to suit the steering control required simply by using special flanges on the two halves to accept one or more of such clips, with all the clips in the same plane.</p> |
