The invention concerns a method for determining the functional fitness of nonmelting electrodes. The method according to the invention for determining the functional fitness of a nonmelting electrode is based on generating an arc in a plasma-forming mixture, which contains dissociating carbon compounds, between electrodes, one of which is the electrode being tested, maintaining the burning of the arc, disconnecting the arc and visually checking the condition of the work surface of an active insert piece 1 for the electrode being tested, during which checking one determines the degree of deposition on the work surface of a carbon layer 3 that is precipitated during the burning of the arc on the work surface from the dissociating carbon compounds of the plasma-forming mixture, and depending on the result of the visual check one determines the functional fitness of the electrode. The electrode for which the work surface of the active insert piece 1 is coated with the carbon layer 3 is considered to be functionally fit. The method according to the invention can preferably be used in production and use of equipment for plasma processing of metals, in welding, cutting, and hard surfacing of metals. <IMAGE> |
