An undesirable resonance damper for stringed instruments e.g cello, can be hidden inside the sound box during mfr. The resonator consists of a mass (3) and spring (2) supported in damping material supports (1). The housing for th resonator (4) can be located as desired, inside the sound box. Component characteristics are sized so tha K2=L/R2 where the latter expression is greater than units. K2 is the coupling factor of the strings and instrument body. L is the mass, R the damping factor and C the spring rating of the string.
