Foam pads for chairs - with contoured carrier strips embedded in soft plastic foam

A cushioned part for use as the seat and backrest of chairs and couches consists of a plastic foam pad (polyurethane) in which carrier strips have been embedded in the lower part. The carrier strips are made of plywood, plastics or steel and are let in at their ends in grooves along the frame of the furniture concerned. A cloth fabric surrounds the whole cushion. Both the foam cushion and the carrier strips are pref. shaped to suit the contours of the human body. At the joint with the frame, U-shaped straps can surround the cloth and the strips. Such chairs can be easily fitted with a device to adjust the contours of the carrier strips so that people with back ailments will find them esp. comfortable to sit on.
