<p>A semi-permeable, endless capillary yarn is prepd. for use in a hollow filament dialyser in which a gp. of filaments open at their ends and equal in length, is assembled, in a series of steps. In a winding machine, >=1 package of the hollow filament yarn, is positioned on a support spindle and wound on to a large size swift with a number of yarn supports spaced out uniformly, so that a series of straight sections of yarn layers are formed, each having a number of spirals set up by the yarn guiding mechanism. Each section of the hank is enclosed by a tubular clamp, hinged so that it can be opened and slipped over the windings in a particular section, and the yarn is cut through close to the ends of the clamp, to give bundles of fibres open at their ends. The winding is effected in such a way that compression of the spirals of the filaments is prevented. Each spiral crosses the adjacent spiral below it; the swift rotating at a speed higher than the speed of oscillation of the filament along a line parallel to the axis of the swift. This makes it possible to produce the hollow fibre dialysers without the need to incorporate the winder detail in the dialyser housing, at a greatly increased speed.</p> |
