Roof mounted solar heating system - uses rectangular frames made of sheet metal angles with strengthening ribs for heat collectors (AT 15.4.80)

The solar heating system using roof mounted heat collectors, employs rectangular frames to hold the collectors, each frame being made of four L section sheet metal frame members. The ends of each member are cropped diagonally, and the sloping edges are welded together in pairs to form the rectangle. Each member has a trough shaped depression (8) along one arm (7) extending to a point short of the diagonally cropped end. The ends of the depression slope to complete an enclosed trough, and the trough has sloping sides (10,11). The other arm (5) of the L section has its edge (6) bent over to form a strengthening bead, and these four arms form the inside of the frame. The trough extends rearwards in the same direction as this arm. The distance (a) between one side (11) of the trough and this arm is greater than the distance (b) between the other side (10) of the trough and the outside edge (12). A hole is bored halfway along the diagonal welded edges at each corner.
