Liquid crystal display - backed by optical light guide layer and reflector foil

A liq. crystal display has at the rear of the liq. crystal cell with the seven-segment array an optical light guide layer which receives a luminous flux from a lamp bulb on the side. The light guide layer is backed by a transparent reflection foil, pref. a plastic such as PVC or polycarbonate with a daylight pigment, and a white foil for total reflection. Such a display requires little light for an optimum background illumination so that the display can be easily read even in the dark.
