Prodn. of a purified gas mixt. which is largely free of S cpds., heavy hydrocarbons and H2O from a crude gas contg. several of these contaminants is carried out by simultaneously removing the contaminants in a single physical absorption step employing a regenerable absorbent at elevated pressure. The absorbent is pref. a polyethylene glycol dialkyl ether. The process is esp. useful for producing a gas of pipeline quality from natural gas, combined with recovery of LPG. It is simpler than prior art processes, with reduced equipment and energy costs.
