<p>Method and apparatus are provided for the initiation of attenuation and collection of a strand (15, 16) by an operator remote from the winder (40) wherein an interim advancement means (72), a movable member (79) adapted to move the strand (15) from a first zone (94) spaced from a collet (42) to a second zone (95) adjacent the interim advancement means (72), means (84) for directing the strand into the interim advancement means (72) and an actuator means (60) for moving said strand (15) advancing along the collet (42) into contact with the strand engagement section (56) of the collet (42) cooperate to initiate collection of the strand (15) upon the collet. </p> |
