The cooling device for the semiconductor rectifier may be a fan of either axial or radial type. The rectifier unit may be mounted inside a hollow shaft in a generator system. In particular, it may be used to rectify the current from the windings of an excitation current generator in a synchronous machine. Where an axial cooling fan is used, the individual blades are fastened or formed on the outside of the thin-walled hollow shaft. There is a bolt with its axis at right angles to the thickness of the wall of the shaft, holding a support for the rectifier. This support holds a further bolt which is connected to the rectifier element. The rectifier element rests against the side of the shaft.
