<p>The turning tool insert is particularly for boring bars, having a housing fitting in a recess in the bar and containing a cutter plate support sliding in a lengthwise drilling. A cylindrical shank on the support accommodates an interchangeable cutter plate offset from its centre line in a recess at the outer end. At the rear end of the shank is a screw thread for an adjusting member rotating between two axially pre-loaded ball-bearings so that there is no free movement in the housing. The housing (8) has a transverse slot at the forward end, with surfaces (13) parallel to the plane (E-E) of the cutter plate, and against which the sides (16) of a transverse rib at the forward end of the shank bear. At one end of the rib (15b), which extends at least to the periphery (8c) of the housing, the recess (17) for the cutter plate (18) is formed. The thread in the shaft is an internal one, in which a screwed boss on the adjusting member engages. The member has an allen head, accessible via an axial drilling in the rib.</p> |
