Where a railway network is divided into districts, use of the track by two trains is permitted. A safety braking system prevents collisions and operates in conjunction with other alarm signals. A generator produces two low frequency signals for normal and disturbed modes of operation. A high frequency signal is modulated by these signals as controlled by a selector. The output is amplified and connected to a ground loop in a particular district. An occupation signal inhibits the output when the stop control signal is zero. A modulation detector on the train senses the normal or disturbed operating mode to generate the stop signal.
