The material-collecting machine is particularly for grass or other mown material, having a rotor in a housing driven by an internal-combustion engine, sucking in the material through a pipe and discharging it through another one. The outlet (16) from the exhaust pipe (14,15) of the engine (12) is connected to an inlet (17) in the rotor housing (1), typically near the connection (10) for the discharge pipe (11) from the latter. The silencer in the exhaust pipe can be dispensed with, and a storage hopper for the material can be connected to the discharge pipe.
