Fine-cut brown algae treated with 0.001N HCl soln. and dehydrated was treated with phosphate soln. at 70≦̸C for 30-60 min. and then was filtered. Fucoidan, laminaran and alginic acid were separated by the solubility difference of each compd. according to pH and temp. change of the filtrate occuring by addn. of carbonic or caustic alkali to it. Fucordan and laminaran were continuously recovered and crude alginic acid was purified by removing org. and inorg. impurities with M3PO4 or M2HPO4 as dispersing agent. Here M means alkali metals of Na, K, etc. and NH4.
