PURPOSE:To form a high-contrast negative image of high halftone dot quality using a stable photosensitive material and a stable processing soln. by processing such a silver halide photographic material contg. a developing agent and a specified hydrazine compound with such an aqueous activator soln. CONSTITUTION:To a silver halide emulsion layer or other hydrophilic colloid layer are added hydroquinones as a developing agent by about 0.05-5mol per mol of silver halide and a hydrazine compound represented by general formula I (where R<1> is aryl having a substituent which is adsorbed on silver halide and R<2> is aryl or alkyl), e.g., the compound of formula II by about 10<-8>-10<-2>mol per mol of silver halide, forming a silver halide photosensitive material practically of surface latent image type. This material is imagewise exposed and processed with an aqueous activator soln. of >=11.5pH. A polyalkylene oxide compound may be blended into the photosensitive material. |
